Enhancing precision optics manufacturing: TRIOPTICS lens centering system now integrates seamlessly with Precitech’s Diamond turning machines

In a significant advancement for precision optics manufacturing, TRIOPTICS and Precitech announce the integration of TRIOPTICS’ state-of-the-art measurement system OptiCentric® and ATS software processes with Precitech’s single point diamond turning (SPDT) machines. This powerful combination enables the production of high-performance mounted lenses for aerospace, defense, medical imaging, and consumer electronics while still allowing high-precision diamond turning on a wide range of materials.
"This integration represents a major leap forward in the easy alignment of precision optical assemblies,” said Jeff Roblee, Division Vice President of Technology for Precitech. “By combining TRIOPTICS’ metrology expertise and software with Precitech’s ultra-precision machining capabilities, manufacturers can achieve tighter tolerances, faster cycle times, and superior optical performance."
The integration addresses a critical challenge in ultra-precision optical systems: ensuring that lenses in an assembly are centered and located accurately with respect to each other. This is done by machining the alignment features of each lens cell in an assembly to precise dimensions that are accurately aligned to the position of the glass optic mounted in the cell. The TRIOPTICS OptiCentric® centering system automates this process with micron-level precision, significantly reducing subsequent alignment time and operator dependency.
"We are delighted to partner with Precitech and we're excited to offer customers the opportunity to upgrade their existing Nanoform machines with our lens centering system, providing a cost-effective entry point into alignment turning capabilities without needing to invest in a dedicated alignment turning machine. Precitech's ultra-precision machine platform coupled with TRIOPTICS' world-class metrology and alignment experience offers an unmatched alignment turning capability for building the highest quality and precision optical assemblies. With an easy-to-use interface based on TRIOPTICS’ software know-how that makes manufacturing tight tolerance optics easy,” said Erik Stover, CEO of TRIOPTICS USA.
Key Advantages of the Integrated System:
- Micron-Level Alignment Accuracy: The TRIOPTICS OptiCentric® system uses advanced optical metrology to determine and compensate decentering errors. These errors can then be corrected by precisely machining the lens Barrels.
- Reduced Setup Time: Automated centering minimizes manual adjustments, significantly shortening the setup process and increasing throughput.
- Deterministic Production Planning: Integration ensures predictable and reliable production planning, eliminating unforeseen iterations in alignment and re-work for efficient scheduling, reduced lead times and increased overall production efficiency.
